Alaska Airlines Fall Sale: Last Day to Check Bookings for Lower Prices

Just a friendly reminder that today is the final day of the Alaska Airlines Annual Fall Sale, which features flights starting at $64 across their entire route network. While each city has their own set of deals, at least from the San Francisco Bay Area, there doesn’t appear to be any amazing deals to traditional vacation destinations like Mexico and Hawaii.

However, from most of Alaska’s West Coast destinations there are some pretty good deals to other West Coast cities, including Salt Lake City, Portland, Seattle, and a couple southern CA cities.

This worked out perfectly for me since I had booked trip to Salt Lake City about a month ago, and had definitely paid more than $64 one-way or $128 round-trip for my ticket. This presented a great opportunity to take advantage of Alaska’s low price guarantee, which allows you to claim a credit anytime prior to departure (for purchases on alaskaair.com), if the price of your flight drops.

While Alaska only allows you to claim a credit for flights purchased elsewhere within 24 hours, there are a couple workarounds. Everyone can take advantage of the policy which does not charge any fees for changes made at least 60 days prior to departure, meaning that you can cancel and re-book at the lower price. That time limit is removed for MVP Gold and 75K members, which means that you can essentially make changes anytime for free, even when you haven’t booked on alaskaair.com.

Some price guarantee programs feel deliberately convoluted in order to avoid having to pay out, but I’ve always found Alaska’s to be straightforward and easy.

You can either use the automated form online to request a refund, or simply call-in to the 1-800-ALASKAAIR (1-800-252-7522) number. Since my ticket had a companion pass attached to it, I called in this time just to be sure that I wouldn’t mess anything up, and 5 minutes later I hung up with an additional $91 credit showing in My Wallet.

While it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on the price of your flight when there’s low price guarantee in place, any time a sale pops up it’s a good reminder to review your existing bookings. The Fall Sale ends on August 8th at 11:59 PST, so make sure to take a look later today.
