Excuse Me, Where’s the Nearest Pagoda?: RGN-SFO on KE F

After spending a few days traveling through Myanmar, I was ready to get back into the lap of luxury.  And what better way than through our return trip home that I had originally booked to start all this.  The full routing for the return trip was RGN-BKK-ICN-SFO with the first leg being on Thai Airways, followed by the next two legs on Korean Air.

The 1-hour flight from RGN-BKK on Thai was very uneventful, although I wasn’t sure if we’d actually be able to board due to the rolling blackouts that we experienced at the Yangon airport.  After a short layover in Bangkok, we took a brief 5-hour flight to Seoul which departed around midnight.  I was only able to get a couple of hours sleep on this redeye flight, so I was especially cranky when we got to Seoul.  Not helping the situation was the fact that we had a 10-hour layover before our final flight home.  While it wasn’t ideal, beggars can’t be choosers, and that was the only option when booking the ticket.

The Korean Air first class lounge in Seoul was actually very nice, with ample food options, and great shower and massage rooms.  We didn’t see more than 10 people in the entire lounge at any given time.  Lisa also got to walk around the ICN shopping mall which was probably the most impressive display of shopping I’ve ever seen in an airport.

Finally, after the 10-hour layover, we were ready to board the 11-hour flight home to SFO.  Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures of the seat, but it was similar to the Thai suites we had on the way to Bangkok.  The service on this flight was great, and the food was absolutely fantastic.  At the end of the dinner service, I was full beyond belief.  I would highly recommend Korean Air, with probably the only negative about this flight being the seat.  It wasn’t the most comfortable, especially for sleeping, and I only managed a couple hours on/off before landing in SFO.
