Hotel Review: Zurich Marriott Hotel

Even though we’d be flying in and out of Zurich, we actually weren’t planning to spend much time there. In fact, the sum total of our time spent in Zurich would be less than 24 hours, spread across two separate visits on the front-end and back-end of the trip. So given the situation, I was looking for a centrally-located hotel that wouldn’t break the bank, since we’d be arriving in the late evening on both nights and wouldn’t really be able to take full advantage of the hotel’s facilities.

My research eventually steered me toward the Zurich Marriott hotel which ended up being a great choice. The hotel is located along the Limmat River, just a 10-minute walk to the Zurich HB train station and about a 20-minute walk into town. Therefore, even though we had a car we were able to just leave it in the hotel’s parking garage and walk everywhere.

With typical Swiss efficiency, check-in was a breeze and in no time we were on our way up to the 37th floor.

For both of our stays we were upgraded to a room with a view, but given our late evening arrivals, turndown service had already been completed and there wasn’t much to see anyways at that point. By European standards the room was extremely spacious and featured a day bed along the window, and a full workstation equipped with all the electrical plugs you could ever need.

The room was also immaculate, with not a single dirt streak to be found in the entire place.

After a long day of travel there’s nothing better than taking a hot shower and climbing into bed. I didn’t waste much time before jumping in, and slept like a rock on the firm mattress and under the very comfortable sheets.

But not before devouring one of my favorite types of Swiss chocolates.

The bathroom was pretty standard, although the shower’s open design meant that the floor became quite wet after showering. I’ve never understood this type of design, I mean, who wants to stand in a puddle of water while they use the toilet?

 

Without any Marriott status we didn’t have the option of a complimentary breakfast at the hotel, which was perfectly fine since we were up at 5AM the next morning and decided to walk into town to find something to eat. The hotel did have complimentary coffee and tea in the lobby throughout the day which was a nice perk.

Overall, while we didn’t have much time to fully enjoy this hotel, with its central location, extremely clean rooms, and ability to use Marriott points, I would definitely stay here again next time I visit Zurich.
